Aavanee is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization serving Frederick and Montgomery counties in Maryland. We are focused on helping women, seniors and families, to make the world a better and happier place.
With help from the Montgomery County NTAMS (Non Profit Technical Assistance and Management Program) grant, Community Foundation of Frederick County Impact grants (Internship for Women and Senior networking programs), Women's Giving Circle of Frederick County grants (2021-2023), Frederick Mutual Insurance, American Rescue Plan Act (Frederick County ANCHR Grant), United Way (Unit Campaign), Rotary Club of Frederick, Society for Science STEM Advocate program (2021, 2024),City of Frederick grant and other generous donors like AIR and collaborators, we organize community-building events such as Women's CaRe (Career Restart) Program, STEM for Kids, Desi Senior Cafe', Mindfulness programs, fundraisers and in-depth training sessions for the underserved communities and female head of households and ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) families. Aavanee extends support and resources to domestic violence victims, particularly among immigrant population.
On an average we serve ~60 women each year who take up workforce training and internships while guiding them towards a better employment opportunity. Each year we provide support to 10-15 domestic violence victims, in the form of counseling, resource help towards legal services, shelter/housing, workforce training, financial education and empowerment.
Our Senior program is growing with nearly 100 members, out of which ~25-30 members meet time to time at Public library, Senior center or outdoors, while the rest remain connected through social media App.
The STEM program for kids is popular with younger kids who learn Science through experiments and graduate to become Aavanee volunteers and learn to serve community and pay it forward. We encourage all children to do Science projects on current issues that affect us and involve them in finding solutions early on.
